Doris’s arts and crafts reflect a childlike part of herself that delighted in whimsy and mischief. She loved cute and comical characters, and enjoyed sharing these delights with others. The 70’s and 80’s was an era full of DIY crafts, and she often borrowed ideas from others, executing them with her own sweet style. This unapologetically sugary view of the world is easy to see and hard not to smile at when reviewing these pieces. Also visible in these pieces is her commitment not to take life (or herself) too seriously.
